Acetal is an acutely toxic clear and colorless liquid with a chemical formula C6H14O2. It is very less soluble in water and a density of 0.82 grams per cubic centimeter at 20 degree Celsius. It is widely used in the production of thermoplastic materials low friction, high stiffness and excellent dimension stability. Acetal is the derivative of formaldehyde excellent wear resistance, low coefficient of friction and abrasion resistance. It has a pungent woody odor with whisky like taste. The boiling and melting point of this compound is 102.2 degree Celsius and -100 degree Celsius respectively. The liquid and its vapor is flammable in nature and may cause skin irritation on contact.
