Sodium Carboxy Methyl Cellulose (CMC) is a powder that is odorless and its color varies from white to almost white. In its manufacture, cellulose acquired from wood pulp or cotton linter, cotton fibers is soaked in sodium hydroxide solution, due to which an alkali cellulose is formed & it is than reacted with M.C.A or S.M.C.A, etherification reaction takes place & it is converted to sodium C.M.C.
